Jim Murray Memorial Trophy Competition
The Jim Murray Memorial Trophy was played on Monday 30th May and was run as a “Yardstick Competition” in order to provide members with something different to the normal triples game. After some initial confusion with measuring bowls using the yardstick, everyone got into the swing of it and the competition was played in good spirits. The weather was kind to us and it was good to see some of our new members entering the competition. Unfortunately, members of Jim Murray's family were unable to join us for the presentation, so our Chairman, Geoff Chapman, kindly agreed to present awards to the winners and runners-up. In doing so, Geoff paid tribute to Jim, he was a dedicated member of the club and was, of course, our greenkeeper for many years.
The Winners – Ray Cordingley, Graham Jarrett & Graham Sears
The Runners-Up – John Simmonds, Andrew Saunders & David Blair
Our grateful thanks go to Dennis Marley and Debbie Broadley for organising the competition. Will we run this competition as a yardstick next year? Let's wait and see, there may be other ideas!
